Weekend Update

Carlos may need more candles on his cake.
Spring sprang in Smallville this weekend, just in time for Carlos' birthday.

Saturday was spent errand-ing, with a doctor's visit and a stop at Kroger and then a brief visit to Sears. Here at Casa Bob y Carlos, Carlos has finally decided that we do need a riding mower for the lawns. After six years of the walk-behind-self-propelled mower, he's done with that nonsense.

Does this tractor make
my butt look big?
So, we checked out a Craftsman tractor at Sears on Saturday, and got all the pricing for the one we want, with the bagger, and the extended warranty and the delivery and, well, I may be selling a kidney if we choose that one and the Sears bill comes due, but it will cut our mowing time to less than half. We also checked out other prices for a Troybilt and a John Deere, and by this weekend, Carlos and I will have made a decision....I hope. My requirements are simple: can it fit into our backyard shed and does it have a cupholder so I can drink and mow .... or be a mo drinking while I mow, or something.

Our Fine Arts Center
Saturday night, our neighbor, Round The Way Gay Neal was giving a benefit performance--an evening of music and song--at our local Fine Arts Center to raise money for the center, so The Gays from near and far, and some of the straights from near, gathered together for a lovely evening. As we took our seats, Carlos recognized a man siting behind us and turned to talk to him before the show started. At intermission, Carlos once again took up the conversation and then, turned to me with a grin and said, 'Jonathan's here.' Jonathan is my boss.
So, I turned to look for Jonathan and didn't see him, and asked Carlos, 'Where?'

'Right behind me.'
'That's not Jonathan.'
'It's not?'
'No, and do you think my boss would take a seat right behind us and yet not speak to me?'
'I didn't know ..... Who is that guy I was talking to then?'
'Um, the guy who played the duet with you in the show last year.'
'Oh yeah .... he looks like Jonathan.'
'Actually, he doesn't.'

That's my Carlos.

'The Finale'
Afterwards we attended a post-show party at The Round The Way Gays, for food and drink--and a special drink of Champagne, Cointreau and Limoncello called, appropriately enough, 'The Finale'--which almost pout an end to me it was so tasty. And there was good conversation and great food and fun stories. At one point, Carlos and I wandered into the backyard to stand by the fireplace and chat. About thirty seconds in to the conversation, Carlos looks around and says, 'Is this the Lesbian section?'

It was all women, and, luckily no one heard him. That's my Carlos.

[Sidenote to Mistress Maddie who entertained some Lesbian friends this week and called them, ahem, Lesbyterians, I will be stealing that word from now on!]

We knew we wouldn't be able to do a birthday celebration this weekend with the show coming up, so we've planned a trip for next weekend to Savannah; Carlos is all about the week-long birthday festivities, and is celebrating today at his office where he's being crowned The Birthday Queen.

Not our 'actual' cart
On Sunday--the actual anniversary of the day Carlos came into being--we drove to CostCo for our monthlies, as it were. Carlos had been telling people for a week now, when they asked what I had planned for his Big Day, 'Oh, he's taking me to CostCo.'

That's my Carlos.

Mmmmmmmmmm
But I did take him to CostCo and I did let him buy that leg of lamb he'd been eyeing, and then I took him out to Senior Tequila's for lunch and Margaritas and Sangria and Passionfruit Mousse, and he was happy.

Last night, as we settled in to relax a bit, we watched a DVRd episode of Smash in which Lizaaaaaaaaaaaaaa [Minnelli] appeared to sing a special birthday song to Ivy--played by the delicious Megan Hilty. Liza sang--and sounded pretty good--and just as she finished, I heard Carlos mutter, 'She got Liza and I got CostCo.'

That's my Carlos.
