Architecture Wednesday: Sunset Plaza Mansion
Posted on 1:00 PM by Unknown
After a few weeks of old homes, and rediscovered treasures, and re-imagined row-houses, I was in need of something entirely different, and the Sunset Plaza Mansion is just the fix I needed. It's modern, and Gothic; it's Steampunk and industrial; it's glass and wood and beautiful stonework; it's a fortress. It's striking; it's one-of-a-kind home. It's not for everyone, but this villa, designed by David Lawrence Gray Architects, is by far one of the most unique homes I've ever come across.
Sunset Plaza Mansion sits on a privately gated half-acre promontory overlooking the Hollywood Hills--just above the smog-line, it seems. You can lounge in the pool and soak in the view, or invite eleven of your closest friends over to relax in the 12-person spa that overlooks Hollywood.
The home includes a billiards table, koi pond, motor court, gym, and a large screening room with a full-sized bar. With five bedrooms in the main villa, and two more in the detached gate house--which also has its own living room--Sunset Plaza can accommodate up to 14 guests. The lavish master suite with rare wood detailing includes an opulent dual master bathroom and a closet no one would want to come out of.
Floor-to-ceiling windows provide panoramic views of downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean; the kitchen, all stainless steel, is designed by the Porsche Design Group.
Plus, big plus, the home is located less than five miles to the Sunset Strip.
Party out, party in. Like I said, it's not for everyone, but it has something for everyone.
